Started by: tomplum (12502)

tekintpiss royal , I'm a sedate driver, Been driving since Moses was a lad, no accidents, no convictions, driving a car capable of nought to sixty in 20 minutes and, only on a motorway, limited to 5000 miles a year, 2 years ago it was £300 per year, last year £360 then this year £542 so, how much are these young people with howdies and beemers paying for the super performance cars ?

I got a better deal on comparethebeercan ,

Probably the same way they pay for the car. On the Never Never.

Aye, every year you have to shop around, I knew they were going to ramp it up, but it was still a shock

Yes, but Tonker also said that on another car he had, they had put the price up, and as I remember in percentage terms, his increase was about the same as my insurance company wanted to screw me for.

Last year's premium £286, renewal quote £670. I rang and they said we won't waste your time can't quote less than £500 so cancelled the renewal for me. RAC quoted £275, policy taken thank you very much.

Gawd knows what my new insurance premium will be.

Confession time. After 45+ years of driving, a couple of weeks ago I managed to knock a lump off the bumper of a colleague's car. Driver error whilst attempting to park, and not paying attention but I have fully comp insurance.

That may not be too bad, you might think, but her car is a 2023 Jaguar F-Type sports car!

Stop laffin' at me.

Modern cars are getting more expensive to fix or the slightest bump makes it a write offMore and more cars are ending up on their roofs after sometimes what appears to be a minor accident. Is this a design faultbut every day it is in the news about this happening.A lot of cars are also designed with the use of larger tyres the norm was 16" tyres now it is 18" or 20" tyres making the ride hight taller.I went to Whiston hospital once and used the multi storey car park It was ok going up the ramps but coming down was a nightmare.Has i turned onto the ramp section the crash barriers just disappeared from my sight and no matter how I positioned myself in the car or put the window down no way could I see the barriers. I got out of the car park unscathed but I bet there where a few cars that scrapped along the barriers and a few insurance claims were made to get the car repaired

Money expert Martin Lewis says the best time for a renewal quote is between 20 - 26 days before the policy is up. There are big savings to be had, don't just renew with existing provider, shop round. Then, if you want to stay put, take the new quote to them and say can you match or better it. He also says haggling does work, if you don't like what they're saying, switch.

My insurance went up nearly double . I renewed with another company ( the RAC ) at a price that was actually lower than what I had paid the previous year . Never stay with the same firm for more than 2 years or they'll rip you off .

Loyalty to any company never pays. You are but a number and if any firm thinks they can overcharge they will. Car insurance utility bills even funerals will charge top dollar if they think they can get away with it

Every year I use a different insurance company, and the one I go with is not necessarily the cheapest.

I don't think any insurance company will forgive my accident by lowering my premium as it will be extremely expensive to repair, so I'll just have to take it on the chin.

Don't worry Mollie its just business, My lad has, had a car stolen, crashed another, ( his fault) and got points on his licence and, believe it or not, his insurance is only £50 more than my renewal price, go figure

Thanks Tom. I'll just have to wait for the outcome of all this. I've never been involved in a claim before, so I don't know what will happen.

I couldn't have bashed into a boy racer's 15 year old jallopy though, could I? Oh no, not me. It had to happen to an £80,000 high end sports car.
